Owen's Story
Owen was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer on November 22, 2023. Owen had an emergency crainiotomy that night to remove his tennis ball sized tumor. During his recovery he bounced back quickly, getting right back into the swing of things. After 7 of weeks of his team struggling to identify his cancer type, they were unable to nail it down, and we were left with a diagnosis of CNS Sarcoma, which is a general description, not an exact tumor type. In January, Owen had another emergency craniotomy due to a regrowth of the tumor and a severe brain bleed. Once beginning chemo, Owen had a severe neurotoxic reaction and coded during each of his first two rounds. Owen completed an astounding accomplishment of 32 of 33 radiation treatments awake, which is a huge accomplishment for such a young kid. On the eve of his final treatment at the first of June, Owen had another brain bleed, which led to the discovery of additional tumors within his brain along with new tumors in his spinal column. Over the course of the next two months, his cancer would strengthen and his side effects of treatment would get worse. Owen began to lose mobility and coordination. During this time our family was able to go to Disney World thanks to the generosity of Make-A-Wish Foundation. August 5, 2024, we found out that Owens disease had progressed further and there would no longer be any treatment options. Owen came home to live a full life with his twin brother Rhett and sister Collins who he had missed so much time with. Owen was able to enjoy sporting events with the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Current. He was able to make lasting memories with his family. On September 22, 2024, Owen peacefully went to be with the Lord. Today Owens legacy of love, compassion and joy for life live on through his brother and sister, those who knew and loved him and now shared with other battle buddies going though the battle of pediatric cancer.
