Battle Buddies
Owen, 6

Owen gained his angel wings in September of 2024 after a 10 month battle with CNS Sarcoma, a rare brain cancer. Our namesake and organizations example of determination and strength through the toughest of times. Owen exemplified a love for life well beyond his years, impacting those who knew him, and those who heard his story. Owen's loving heart and legacy now live on through the efforts of Owen's Battle Buddies.
Ember, 10

Ember was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her left knee just a couple weeks after her 10th birthday in July. Since then she has strongly battled chemotherapy, had surgery to remove the cancer, and are now getting a prosthetic to get back to enjoying life. She has goals of becoming a fashion designer, and to play tennis as she grows up. Ember is also artistic, loves to paint, color, and draw. Favorite pastime is reading, small books, big books, it doesn’t matter she’ll try to read it. She loves being outside and enjoys spending time with her siblings. Her favorite color is purple. She’s tells the best animal jokes, and loves a great laugh. She has overcome so much and she continues to strive to be the best version of herself.
Calvin, 6

At just 4 years old in 2024, Calvin was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma after a week of unexplained stomach pain changed our lives forever. He was later diagnosed with Anaplastic Large-Cell Lymphoma (ALK+), and our brave little boy began an intense journey of six rounds of chemotherapy treatment. For ten long months, Calvin faced each appointment, procedure, and hospital stay with a strength far beyond his years. After months of fighting, his scans finally showed that the remaining tissue was no longer active, and he was declared in remission. Today, we are incredibly grateful to share that Calvin has remained in remission. His courage, resilience, and bright spirit continue to inspire everyone around him. Thank you for supporting Calvin and our family as we celebrate his strength and continue moving forward with hope.
Sophia, 22

Sophia has been battling Ewing's sarcoma cancer since she was 15 years old. She is now 22 years old and has been battling cancer for seven years, currently on her fourth battle with cancer. Sophia receives all of her cancer treatments at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. For seven years, Sophia and her family have been traveling back and forth to Kansas City, which has been very difficult due to their home being four hours away from her specialists and hospital. In her 7-year battle so far she has received 110 radiation treatments, 83 blood transfusions, and 10 surgeries. Sophia is known for her unconditional and contagious smile through all of her adversities. She is positive, resilient, and an inspiration to many. It brings her great joy to share her story and her yellow cancer wristband with everyone who connects with her. Sophia always shares her special message with others, encouraging them to stay strong, like she has, through everything and to always trust in God, and they will get through anything. Her favorite quote is: 'The butterfly is beautiful because the caterpillar was brave.'
